1/12 Clone Cold Assault Gear
One of my long-time clients who tbh at this point is more my partner of whom we do a lot of projects with, wanted to have this design that was present in the cg animated Clone Wars done in a realistic aesthetic and a kit for it in 1/12.
It was a really interesting project to do. When looking at the design concepts and cg models from the TV show it was clear the showrunners intended this to be a very similar armour set to the existing Imperial snow trooper design. This was reflected especially in the forearms, knee's and hands which are an exact copy.
The fact these parts are present from 30 years prior in the Clone Wars when compared to the Imperial era to me has an air of 'if its not broke don't fix it'
There are several parts to which i added my own artistic flare on the design, as there are many floating parts of this model to keep it in keeping with the animation style.
I designed the kit around the Deathwatch Mandalorian figure which is just a fantastic base figure, i created it to use both standard and flex resin.
The helmet is in 2 parts for ease of painting and movement, the flex lower part will allow the figurehead to move range of movement
Because there was to be plenty of flex and movement with this helmet, it was imperative to add a neck peg hole inside
The Shoulders, will have this flex O-ring, i wanted this to be a separate part so i can batch print the O-rings for this project and others and be a shared asset.
The fore arms are designed around the snow trooper arms and will pop right onto the pegs where the gauntlets go, this will allow the customer to have an easier time building it and more movement when posing.
The Torso parts are all slotted together and over one another.
The Lower Abs has these ammo drop boxes, the design i took was to haver them dangle on fabric strips, simular to that of the scout trooper and snow trooper with a flare of the clone trooper armour.
For ease of printing these are to be separate parts.
The boots-on figure kits are always tricky as its hard to replace without modifying the figure heavily. As such these are made in a Flex resin, so the customer can shave down the figure's legs and slot in and then on to the boots so that can still pose.
